CASPER, Wyo. — Casper police are investigating a shooting that occurred on the 1900 block of South Missouri Avenue on Sunday evening, leaving one man dead and another in critical condition.
Officers responded to a call reporting a traumatic injury and the sound of gunshots at an apartment at 6:50 p.m. When they arrived, they found an adult man outside the building with an apparent gunshot wound. Inside the apartment, a second adult man was found with a gunshot wound.
Both were taken to Wyoming Medical Center.
The Natrona County Coroner’s Office has identified the deceased as 20-year-old Anicio Kane Bernard of Casper. Coroner James Whipps said next of kin have been notified, and an autopsy is pending.
The other man remains hospitalized in critical condition.
The preliminary investigation shows the shooting resulted from a confrontation involving an exchange of gunfire inside the apartment. Detectives found and interviewed numerous other people who were present at the time of the incident. Authorities believe this to be an isolated event.
The investigation remains active and ongoing. Detectives are continuing their work to gather evidence, execute search warrants and pursue new leads.
