CASPER, Wyo. — The makeup of Blackmore Marketplace Shopping Center’s growing footprint on Casper’s east side is starting to take shape.
Crews are busy prepping and starting foundation work along a large parcel of land on Newport Road, stretching between East Second Street and Blackmore Road. The site is just west of the completed section of Blackmore Marketplace and its parking lot.
According to Karen Blumenstein with the Colorado-based firm Flower & Stone, retailers Five Below and Burlington Stores have been confirmed as future tenants. She said there will also be three new additional large tenants, and one large relocation from the Eastridge Mall. As reported previously by ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø, Dick’s Sporting Goods is listed on city documents for a 50,000-square-foot building at 651 Newport.
The opening date of the anchor tenant is not established, but most are expected to open by June 2026, she said. She was unable to name the other tenants as negotiations are ongoing.
The city of Casper’s lists a Barnes & Noble and a WinCo Foods grocery store as two tenants on the property. A representative from WinCo declined to comment. Blumenstein confirmed that a grocery tenant is planned, but was unable to give additional details for the time being.
, WinCo Foods is an employee-owned private chain that traces its roots to Waremart Foods, which was established in Boise, Idaho, in 1967. It rebranded as WinCo in the ’90s and has since expanded to 142 stores in 10 states. It currently has no stores in Wyoming.
When asked about possible plans for a Casper store, a Barnes & Noble spokesperson said in a message to ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø that they could not comment at this time, adding, “We hope to be able to announce something soon.” The book retailer currently operates one Wyoming location in Cheyenne.
Five Below describes itself as a trendy budget retailer established in Pennsylvania in 2002. It currently has more than 1,700 stores nationwide, . Clothing retailer Burlington Stores – originally known as Burlington Coat Factory – was established more than five decades ago to sell off-price coats. It currently operates more than 1,000 locations, .
Blackmore Marketplace was purchased by Flower & Stone and business partner Kroenke Group from the McMurry family in 2016. It has since been active in attracting numerous new retailers to the Casper market. In a 2019 interview with ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø, Blumenstein said Casper was the kind of market the company looks for to grow and invest.
“We aren’t looking for fast growth; we like stable and organic growth of the community,†she said.
“We almost never sell an asset, so when we come into a community with a big asset like this, we know we’ll be here for 20, 30, 40 years.â€
