CASPER, Wyo. — The Casper City Council will seek a 2026 TAP grant of more than half a million dollars, to be used toward an ongoing city pathway project.
The $550,000 grant from the Wyoming Department of Transportation will be used to fund a 10-foot-wide concrete pathway along the Platte River riverfront, which will connect the to-be-completed Poplar Street pedestrian bridge to the existing pathway along 1st Street.
Of the request, the city reports in a staff memo that $497,695 would be TAP funds and $52,305 would be from the city.
“The match is only 10%, so it’s a very favorable grant,” Casper Chief Financial Officer Tom Brauer said.
The city plans to put out a call for public input on May 20, with design and survey work to begin the following days. The council expects engineering design and survey work to be completed by the end of June.
According to city reports, TAP requires that all of the engineering design work be completed by the time the grant application is submitted. The deadline to apply for the grant is July 15.
City Manager Carter Napier added that even if the grant is approved, work on some city easements will still need to be completed for the project to move forward.
