CASPER, Wyo. — Former University of Wyoming quarterback Josh Allen was honored on Thursday night with the 2024 AP NFL Most Valuable Player award for his latest season with the Buffalo Bills.

, Allen barely edged out the 2023 winner, Baltimore’s Lamar Jackson, thanks to his 383 points compared to Jackson’s 262 points. Allen became the second quarterback in the league’s history to win MVP after not making first-team All-Pro, . The other was John Elway in 1987, winning over All-Pro Joe Montana.

Allen led the Bills to their fifth straight AFC East title during the 2024 season, .

“I know this is an individual award and it says Most Valuable Player on it, but I think it’s derived from team success, and I love my team,†Allen said during the NFL Honors show in New Orleans, according to the Times. “It truly takes everybody to have team success, and I’m so fortunate to be a part of a great organization.â€

Allen, who attended the event with his fiancée, actress Hailee Steinfeld, closed his acceptance speech, saying, “With that being said, be good. Do good. God bless. And go Bills.â€

Wyoming Gov. Mark Gordon said on social media this morning, “Congratulations to Josh Allen, whose talent and character have shone brightly since he first arrived in Laramie.”

Allen, 26, is originally from Firebaugh, California, and played with the UW Cowboys from 2015 to 2017. He was drafted by the Buffalo Bills in 2018.
